Wir Sin Helden (”We Are Heroes”), formed in 2001, and has been a fixture in the German music scene ever since their first single, “Guten Tag”, reached #53 on the German music charts. It doesnt sound like much, but at the time, the band wasn’t even signed. They were soon selling out their small club shows, and when they released their second album, “Von hier an blind “, it remained in the German, and Austrian top ten for 20 weeks. Music wise, they remind me of a German Cardigans. Lead singer, Judith Holofernes, has a sweet ass voice, and their production is energetic and soulful. “Von hier an blind “, has been in my rotation ever since I first heard it, and I go through cd’s like Rosie O’Donnell goes through a box of Little Debbies. I give it 2 guns up.

Glamour Punk band The Long Blondes released their debut in November titled “Someone to Drive You Home” after signing to Rough Trade Records in April. Drawing heavy influences from old bands like The Buzzcocks and Ramones, they add a splash of New Wave into their music for good measure. Lead singer Kate Jackson is known for her boldness and unique fashion sense and has been quoted as saying: “We do not listen to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors or Bob Dylan. We chose an instrument each and learnt to play it”. Despite their bravado they back it up with crisp guitar riffs and strong basslines. Need some new material to rock out to?
