TURBO CITY CINEMA: JAY’S LAMENT
by C-Town on October 16th, 2008

Jay Brooks is that black guy who digs indie rock, graphic novels and dates white chicks. After a slew of bad break-ups, Jay gives up white women “cold turkey” and goes on a mission: “Operation Brown Sugar.” Jay doesn’t fit the “brotha” stereotype, however, so he fails miserably with the “sistahs.” Then Jay meets Catherine, a misunderstood “Half-Rican Canadian” who’s as righteously quirky as he is. But to win her heart, Jay will have to figure out that his commitment issues go beyond race. An international festival favorite written by Courtney Lilly (Arrested Development, Everybody Hates Chris), I’m Through With White Girls is a fresh and funny romantic comedy that proves finding love begins with finding yourself.
TURBO CITY CINEMA: DARK MEMORIES…

A few words by Fluff Daddy.
Batman was a revolutionary series that combined great writing with animation that looked cutting edge while still having a vintage look. I would actually get home from college to catch episodes of this show. The fact that it has such a dark tone, and would be shown in the afternoon during the “kiddie hours for animation” is a testament to how good the stories were. I would venture to say that this version of batman made you totally forget the cookie BS, Batman, from the Superfriends era.
TURBO CITY CINEMA: THE ORIGINAL FEMME FATALES…

Three strippers seeking thrills encounter a young couple in the desert. After dispatching the boyfriend, they take the girl hostage and begin scheming on a crippled old man living with his two sons in the desert, reputedly hiding a tidy sum of cash. They become houseguests of the old man and try and seduce the sons in an attempt to locate the money, not realizing that the old man has a few sinister intentions of his own.

TURBO CITY CINEMA: RAD (1986)
by C-Town on September 17th, 2008
This is the story of Cru Jones, a young man who can overcome all obstacles that prevent him from participating in the BMX race “Helltrack.” As he works towards his dream, Cru falls in love with Christian, an amateur racer. With the help of Christian and her friends, can Cru’s “Rad Racing Team” defeat the top BMX factory rider, Bart Taylor?
I used to own this on Betamax, and watched it over 100 times when I was a kid. Now, it is a true cult classic, as one of the first movies to bring BMX racing to the mainstream. The soundtrack is just as classic as the movie, and was the first time I ever heard, “Send Me An Angel”, which happens to be one of my favorite 80’s songs til this day. I had to share this with my Turbo City people.
This scene changed my life:
